Advice on newcomer materials???

by Norahis on Oct 27 2002 9:15 PM

I'm looking for some advice on helping my newcomer K-6 ESL students learn essential vocabulary as efficiently as possible. I can only see these guys for a short time each day and in the beginning they usually end up doing very little when they are back their regular classrooms.

I have been looking for an ESL program they could use in their regular classrooms that would be self-guided and engaging, even for someone who has never used a computer before. So far, I have had no luck. So, I am planning to create my own.

If you have any advice for me or know of a program that is already out there, I would love to hear from you.

I have also put together a short survey to gather ideas. If you would take the time to complete this survey (just a couple of minutes), you could win a copy of my program once it's released. Just go to
www.terradigita.com/learningelement

Thanks for your time!

You might try www.eslreadingsmart.com for high school students. Ellis has a program that is decent for elementary grades as well.
