Instruction time for esl

I work in a pull-out ESL program. Isn't it recommended that we see an ESL student an hour each day?
Please advise.

Yes, an hour a day would be ideal, but the reality is that it is not always possible. With the time constraints of the everyday schedule and the growing number of ESL students, it is very hard for most ESL teachers to find a solid hour of time to work with each group of students. I usually try to have an hour for my level 1 ESL students (or beginners) but with my higher level students I try to get about 40 minutes because it is hard to justify pulling them out of their content instruction for more that that amount of time each day. Remember, in an elementary setting, if students are with you, most of the time they are missing some type of instruction in their classroom.

The amount of time I spend with a student or students is based upon their language level, how successful they are in the content area classroom with / without intervention and how much time is available.
