WIDA ACCESS Placement Test-Pre-K
by Debbie on Sep 17 2007 3:56 PM
Hi Judi,
I have Pre-K ESL this year.I have been using the new WIDA Oral Proficiency Test version 2. I am using this as a criterion along with teacher recommendation to determine eligibility. What are the cut off scores? For example: 19-28= High on the oral scale and 29-30 = exceptional. The interpretation guidlines are not clear. What is New Jersey's criterion for Pre-K? Thanks!

Hi Debbie,
At the recent Fall Institute:New Frontiers, which focused on Early Childhood ELLs, this topic was discussed at length. The summary was that the state of NJ does not have a cutoff for PreK, not does it recommend one for these very young learners. Instead the home language survey is available to make that decision. If the child lives in a home where two languages are spoken, then the child may participate in the ESL program in PreK.

Just received the scores of the new revised Access for Kindergarten test. What is the suggested cut-off scores for exit for students who took the test in kindergarten and now in 1st grade. Is it also 4.5?
Also, can we use the old W-Apt for entrance in the program for kindergartn?
